# How to change due date text for partial preorder payments

When using partial payments (such as deposits or preorders), Shopify displays a due date message in checkout to inform customers when the remaining balance will be charged.

This message appears in the order summary and helps set clear expectations about remaining payments. You can customize this text in your Shopify theme language settings to better as per your convenience or provide more context to customers.

### Where This Text Appears

The due date text is displayed in the checkout order summary when:

* A partial payment or deposit is enabled
* A portion of the total is charged upfront
* The remaining balance is scheduled for later

### How to Change the Due Date Text
Follow these steps to update the text shown to customers. 

### Step 1: Open Theme Language Settings
1. Go to **Shopify Admin**
2. Click **Online Store**
3. Click **Themes**
4. Click the **three dots (⋯)** on your active theme
5. Click **Edit default theme content**

### Step 2: Search for the Partial Payment Label
1. In the search bar, type: deferred or due.
2. Locate the field

### Step 3: Update the Text

By default, Shopify uses something like: Remaining balance will be charged in {{date}}

You can customize this to anything you prefer.

###### Example Variations for **More formal:** texts
1. The remaining balance will be charged on {{date}}.
2. Balance due on {{date}}
3. Your remaining payment will be charged when your order ships ({{date}})
4. No additional payment until {{date}}
